Alzheimer's Mind Body Education & Resources (AMBER) has been in existence since November 2015 operating on a small scale offering services to Smyth and Washington County, Virginia residents. It is owned and operated by a native of Virginia who grew up in the small, but historical town of Saltville, Virginia. Karen Rolen graduated from R.B. Worthy High School and was a proud Saltville Shaker.
She left the area in 1998 to pursue her dreams in Social & Community Services. She attended Middlesex Community College and obtained her Associate of Applied Sciences (AAS). Having a passion for learning she continued her education at Central Connecticut State University where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Social Work. Karen began to engage not only in the principles of social work but felt a sense of community and a desire to better understand social systems and the needs of the vulnerable and marginalized within her community.
Karen returned to school and attended Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she obtained her Master of Science (MS) degree specializing in Social and Community Services and became a Gerontologist. After graduating from Capella University she worked with an Area Agency on Aging and became impassioned to work with individuals living with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. She is a Certified Alzheimer’s Disease Dementia Care Trainer (CACDT), a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) and has practiced in the Montessori principles for Alzheimer’s. Karen is a Virginia Notary and has her Virginia Health Insurance License.
Karen opened Alzheimer’s Mind Body Education & Resources (AMBER) in 2015 to become a community advocate for alzheimers and to let people know they are not alone in their struggle or their passion to find a cure. The services she and other volunteers provide to caregivers and other health care professionals are intended to help those impacted by the disease while building stronger Alzheimer’s communities.
Her goal is to network with other providers to create stronger communities and be available to you from a diagnosis until the cure. Blessings from us to you during our journey.
